Reflexology – Classic

What is reflexology and how can it help me?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy using massage techniques of varied pressure to stimulate the body’s own natural healing process. This can be done on the client’s hands, face, feet or legs; using balm, cream or oil, depending on the style of treatment requested.

Many people use reflexology to de-stress their physical, mental and emotional self. Not everyone comes for reflexology related to health issues, although it may help support many varied physical conditions. Stress, both mental and physical, can have a major impact on our body, so it is important to find solutions to support the well-being of our spirit.

Reflexology is not a diagnositic treatment and a medical GP should be consulted if there are health concerns. The reflexologist does not claim to cure or prescribe. Reflexology is used to support a client looking holistically at lifestyle choices and ways of managing and supporting physical and emotional stresses. The emphasis of the treatment is on relaxation, well-being and balancing the body’s energy flow.

Let’s look back at history for a moment… There are many theories regarding the development of reflexology dating back to wall carvings and scrolls from ancient Egypt and China. There is a list of dates, research and publications from 2,230 BC until today. Sir Henry Head proved the neurological relationship between pressure applied to the skin and internal organs. Sir Charles Sherrington showed that the spinal cord, brain and reflex pathways control the activities of the body, and this lead to further study of the interrelationship between certain points of the body and organs. Reflexology was not introduced to the West until Dr William Fitzgerald developed ‘zone therapy’. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. Reflexologist pioneer of the 1930s, Eunice Ingham further developed zone theory and believed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body. She developed the foot map which is the body road map of reflexology.

Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy that can be used alongside allopathic and orthodox treatments or just simply to drift off into a pampering session of relaxation. A course of treatments may be recommended to ensure best results, depending on the condition of the client and each treatment is unique to the individual. Any possible side effects will be discussed prior to the reflexology treatment.

I trained at the London School of Reflexology, Regent’s Park under the tuition of Louise Keet. I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists (MAR) and passed my ABC level 3 diploma.

• Holistic healing combination treatments – Reflexology and Reiki.
To achieve a deeper level of healing, I combine reiki and reflexology treamtents. Firstly, I begin by treating the auric field and energy centres using reiki and seichem techniques and then go on to treating the physical body to assist balance and alignment through the reflex points on the feet. This is a very powerful session where I look at your lifestyle holistically and tailor the session to your physical and energetic needs. The treatment is done fully clothed and only the socks need to be removed. Sessions can be 60 or 90 minutes, including consultation.

“I’ve been to see Cinnamen Johnson a few times for reflexology and I’ve found her treatments to be deeply relaxing, so relaxing in fact that I very often nearly fall asleep during the appointments. That in itself is a wonderful thing as I often find it very difficult to fully relax during a treatment, but not with Cinnamen’s reflexology, I quite happily drift away into a tranquil state of mind, almost immediately. Her treatments have helped me to sleep much better afterwards and I’ve always found her sessions to be very comforting, professional, intuitive and helpful. I’d highly recommend her to anyone seeking an experienced reflexologist, to treat ailments or just to rejuvenate or relax you. She’s amazing.”
